Perspective and Clarity for Freshleaf Digital
Dorset Business Mentors supported Freshleaf Digital, a business delivering websites, software and data integrations for deep-tech companies. Managing Director Katie Theisinger was matched with mentor Bob Foss to support a planned software product launch and wider strategic development.
The starting point
I initially came to mentoring while preparing to launch a software product, and needed support with marketing strategy, product management and planning. Although we've built software for many years, it was all bespoke and one-off, so with launching a product there was a real shift in thinking and skillset required, and we needed some outside support with that.
As it turned out, as the year progressed, priorities shifted out of necessity. Instead of focusing primarily on the product launch, we needed to concentrate more broadly on various other aspects of Freshleaf Digital as a whole.
Working together
Bob was excellent at supporting both the original goal and the shift. He brought the right expertise and lived experience, while also providing a valuable outside perspective.
Our mentoring sessions helped me step back regularly, review the bigger picture and think more clearly about priorities, direction and opportunities. That combination of practical insight and accountability was especially valuable.
The difference it made
The mentoring gave me increased confidence and sparked new ideas. Just as importantly, it created space to think strategically about the business and make decisions with greater clarity.
For me, one of the biggest benefits was having someone experienced to discuss the bigger-picture aspects of running the business with, particularly because Freshleaf is a small team so I don't have a wider leadership team around me.
